Spatial cognition

Spatial cognition is the use of internal knowledge about the layout of the world and the body’s relationship to it in order to organise spatial actions like reaching, self-localisation and navigation. Research methods involve study of real-world navigation, laboratory spatial behaviour, virtual reality and neuroscience methods such as brain imaging. Principles derived from this research can be used to inform real-world design.
